Materials science & nukes. Deterrence & what comes after.
Patriot, liberal firebrand, Catholic, last of the China hawks, Nitzean superman. Victory is possible.
Opinions my own.

Rekindling hearts in a world that grows chill.
Yeah, stuff like that is abusable. Also IMO really not good for students - the ones who need it the most are not the ones who benefit from being given an "out" to do 12 weeks of work over Thanksgiving break...

Yeah mileage varies by your courses but I had very, very few exams where I would have done significantly better with more time. Often either you know it or you don't.

Not to be reductionist but it would be kinda funny if the thing that puts the nail back in the coffin on SLCM-N is...Japan deciding they want to host forward deployed NSNW.

if you read more political theory you'd understand this is the only just alternative
November 15, 2025 at 7:38 PM
That's valid, yeah

Also....oh, no... don't punish Bill Clinton if it turns out he was a child abuser, no, we'd HATE if you did that...

It's Sec 1733, "Disclosures" and especially the "Use of Disclosed Information" where it gets funny.

The 5 year retroactive language for American PIs with "covered collaborators" doesn't technically say that you're barred, but it does require disclosure of those relationships, which "may" be used in determining the award of funds.

Digging into the text of the bill I might have spoken too soon, actually. The 5 year reachback part seems to be being misinterpreted in the Science magazine article. It's written widely and is still very restrictive, though.

Gavin "Escalate to De-escalate" Newsome

[foaming at the mouth, a gleam in my eye] It's a career sacrifice I'd be willing to make for my country.

But most of the things that we find scary are things that happen when you are already in a war. If you make a movie about a limited US/PRC war in the Western Pacific, the escalation dynamics I think don't land for studio audiences. Suspension of disbelief plus they think that's *already* Armageddon.

The conservative victimhood industrial complex they've built for themselves over the last 15 years really, really can't sustain itself absent the Lib Oppressor Caste.

i love that you can't immediately tell if this is about al-Sharaa or Zohran

it is a Sunni / Shi'a inclusive post

We've been in ostensibly "late" capitalism for longer than any preceding era of capitalism existed, if I understand the Marxist view correctly.

Wine doesn't count. It's a vegetable.

The "servant" in civil servant has been mistaken in some corners for something of a civil serf.

I have entertained some pretty dark thoughts about why Russ Vought's wife left him and took the kids, personally.
November 10, 2025 at 10:06 PM
Well, most of them are child abusers so it's hard to pin down.

I think it's safe to say nobody here's gonna be splitting the atom, Marty.

Why should I live in history, huh? Fuck, man, I don’t want to know anything anymore. This is a world where nothing is solved.

Someone once told me
time is a flat circle. Everything we’ve ever done, or will do, we’re gonna do over and over and over again.
