yeah, for music/movies/TV, you're barely going to be paying the artists at all if you're streaming it. like, tiny tiny percentages of a penny per stream

also residuals are so low in the streaming era that it's really hard to even argue that the artists who worked on whatever it is are losing out if you just download the thing some other way

carly rae jepsen herself probably has no mental association between the movie rocky and herself, let alone her career. in her mind it's probably an "old movie." i say this bc i am roughly her age & that is how i perceive the film. i have seen it, but obvi not when it premiered, because i was A BABY.

the funny part of this post is that, while Rocky came out to widespread acclaim 40 years ago, public consciousness around carly rae jepsen didn't form until "call me maybe" became a smash hit (2011-12). it's not like we were all immediately aware of her as a baby. there is NO connection here.

it's funny bc in 2013 when the phoenix went out of business and i chose to continue to do video game journalism and criticism, i was like, wow, i really painted myself into an extremely specific corner and i'm not sure it's going to be financially viable to stay in it. lol

somehow we managed to start watching the show without even knowing that kim kardashian starred in it, which was also a hilarious way to engage with it as a piece of media

yup. we don't need to hear "wrecking ball" or "the climb" anymore, as a society. we all need a break. maybe for 30 years or so?

i don't agree with the miley cyrus mention because "plastic hearts" is an incredible rock album actually and more people should check it out, but i do understand the spirit of the list overall
