I had an opportunity to collaborate on a short article on #migration in #Japan for our university's online journal. I hope it will raise awareness on discrimination and labelling among those who usually do not think about it often but are increasingly exposed to stereotypes on social networks.

Our authoritarianism is run on clichés borrowed from the Eastern Europe of twenty years ago. Paid protestors, disloyal cities, evil Soros, vast conspiracies — it was all tiresome then and there, and now it’s pathetic.
Trump: "They're, like, insurrectionists, they're terrible people. But you really wonder why. Why are they doing it? What are they gaining? Other than they're obviously paid. They're paid a lot of money."

While the numbers for most countries are increasing, number of Japanese students in US has declined to less than a third from 2000. At the same time, Japan is still one of the top 10 destinations globally.
The number of international students in the US is higher than ever

But that might change, given new restrictions from the Trump administration, the high costs of US higher ed, and growing opportunities abroad
