Patrick Stewart and Brent Spiner perform a scene on the elevated platform of the stellar cartography set. While stellar cartography has previously been seen in the STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION episode "Lessons" as a redress of the oft-used science lab, this new multi-level set was created for STAR TREK GENERATIONS. Initially intended to be a spherical room, stellar cartography was ultimately a cylindrical, two-level set due to the relatively low budget the filmmakers had to work with.

As the artisans boxed up their work for Captain Jones, they paused and called over the foreman.

The foreman did agree that the model made for the Captain's ready room was a tad larger than normal.

However Captain Jones had intended it to be that size to use as a novelty coffee table.

James Doohan as Captain Montgomery Scott learning about the fate of Captain Kirk on the Enterprise-B. Early versions of the script for STAR TREK GENERATIONS, penned by TNG writers Brannon Braga and Ronald D. Moore, featured Kirk boarding the Enterprise-B with McCoy and Spock. However, both DeForest Kelley and Leonard Nimoy (who was also offered the opportunity to direct the film) declined offers to reprise their roles. Dialogue was slightly altered but the story functions of Kelley's McCoy and Nimoy's Spock were simply swapped with Koenig's Chekov and Doohan's Scotty.

Jacqueline Kim and James Doohan in action on the Enterprise-B bridge set. Production began on STAR TREK GENERATIONS in March 1994 while STAR TREK: THE NEXT GENERATION was still on production of its seventh and final season. As TNG episodes "Preemptive Strike" and "All Good Things..." were being filmed on the standing Enterprise-D sets, scenes set aboard the Enterprise-B with William Shatner, Walter Koenig, and James Doohan were simultaneously in production. Following the wrap of TNG by the end of March, production on the film also ceased to allow the behind-the-scenes crew to revamp the Enterprise-D sets to stand up to big screen scrutiny for the rest of the film set in the 24th century.

Russ would go on to appear on STAR TREK: VOYAGER as Tuvok less than a year a after the release of STAR TREK GENERATIONS. According to the actor, he first learned about the possibility of joining the franchise in a regular role while filming his small part in GENERATIONS, "At the time the producer told me they were developing a series that was going to be called VOYAGER. But, they didn’t have all the characters in place yet and he did mention the series was coming and said if there was a role in there for me, he would love for me to come in and read for it."

With films like CHINATOWN and SCARFACE in his filmography, Alonzo took first time film director David Carson under his wing, according to Producer Rick Berman: "Alonzo pretty much took David under his wing and said, 'Look, you’re the director, you can do whatever the hell you want to do.' And David took that to heart. If David had fourteen setups for a certain day and he would get seven of them done, his attitude was, 'Too bad. I’m going at the pace that I want to go.' And the studio started going ape-shit."
