Elder millennial librarian. Married. One dog. Been learning guitar the last couple years and crocheting since I was 9.
That you need a master's degree to be a librarian.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

If you placed all the books in an average Waterstones end to end, it would stretch around 7500km!

But if you placed all the books *in our library* end to end, it would cause a huge fuss and you'd likely be asked to leave.
What is common knowledge in your field, but shocks outsiders?

Almost all of the bugs and problems and breakage in the software you use is known to the engineers, we just aren't allowed to fix it. Gotta ship new features.

I love explaining to boomers that a millennial isn't perpetually someone in college.

AI is useless if it's not regulated, and judging by the state of social media, it never will be. When in doubt, ask a librarian #MakeReferenceCoolAgain #AskALibrarian

#crochetsky #crafts #pokemon For my stepdaughter. Mareep is her favorite. Not from a pattern. How did I do? Do you think she'll like it?

#Academicsky I love all the protests but I need something quieter and sneakier. Anonymous letter writing campaign? There's only 535 members of Congress. How long would it take me to write to all of them and ask for an amendment to protect academic freedom?

#filmsky - was 2024 ever going to be anything but Wicked? Honorable mentions: Wild Robot, Flow, Twisters, A Real Pain, Fall Guy, Sept 5, Inside Out 2
Biggest let down: Moana 2
Refused to see bc Colleen Hoover is a hack: It Ends with Us (here's hoping)
Too sweaty, not enough boys kissing: Challengers

#filmsky - sorry to both my followers for an illness making you wait for the final years in my favorite film each year since I was born count down. My pick for 2023 is of course Barbie. Not highest ranked for '23 on IMDB ranked by popularity??? Bc of the patriarchy and its sad lack of horses.

#filmsky - and now a break from freaking out about the future of libraries to return to my countdown. (Wouldn't want to disappoint you both.) My pick for 2022 is predictable, but there's a reason Everything Everywhere All at Once won all the awards.
I'm running out of years. What should I do next?

#filmsky - true to the end, my pick for 2021 is Enchanto. The colors, the songs, the villain being intergenerational trauma, a youngest main character who definitely had my middle kid energy, come on.

Kudos to these historians for rising to the moment and by banding together to fight fascism here in the U.S.

A clear-eyed letter from Columbia historians. “The situation we encounter today is fundamentally different from these earlier campus conflicts. Authoritarian regimes always seek to gain control over independent academic institutions. That is what we see unfolding now.”

#filmsky - 2020 - shout out Promising Young Woman, Nomadland, Soul, Emma, Minari, Hubie Halloween, and Zola. While My Octopus Teacher was technically a better film, Onward is the only one I've rewatched from this dark year.

#crafts #crochetsky I was going for witch hat, but it ended up more fairy/pixie. What do we think? Should I rip it out and try again to get the ruffles out of the brim?

#filmsky - 2018 My pick for this year is a lesser known, probably straight to streaming film about a fat woman who loves Dolly trying out for a beauty pageant and it's everything I ever needed as a fat girl growing up. Dumplin! 💗 Jennifer Aniston is amazing in it. The book is even better!

#filmsky 2017 - Whether it's a fight with her mom turning into gushing over a thrift store dress, her literal interpretations of common phrases, or crying with Beanie in the car and posing together at prom, there's a lot to love about Lady Bird. (It's part of why I can't stand Chalamet).

#filmsky - 2016 - now I'm over 30 and the old is setting in. Shout out Kubo and the 2 Strings, Pete's Dragon (the only good Disney live action remake), Bad Moms, Trolls, Zootopia, Moonlight, Deadpool, Arrival, and La La Land. I cannot honestly choose anything over Moana. ❤️🏝️🌊🛶🐚🐔🐷

#filmsky - 2015 - I liked Fury Road, the Witch (watch at home with subtitles), and I actually understood the math in The Big Short (having recently taken finance for my MBA). Pratt has really been pissing me off lately, but I can never resist anything with dinosaurs. Gotta go with Jurassic World
