Smiling in this case can be a way of coping, an attempt to reduce stress. This guy’s business obviously needs more customers. One usually doesn’t attract those by looking sad or angry. And so on. It’s pretty hard to analyse a smile superficially.

Great post. All his Skye recordings are absolute 🔥 imho. Same goes for most of his Impulse! albums.

Nothing to add. I still find it hard to ‘understand’ the softness of the nib and how insanely balanced she is when used posted.

Tbh: me too. That said, there’s a book about the place of burial of jazz’s greats. No, I’m not kidding… But Grant is one of many who eventually found out how short lived fame usually is.
