On this November afternoon, we are taking a moment to reflect on Potato Diggers in the West, a highly atmospheric work by Charles MacIver Grierson that beautifully captures the late autumn light and intensity of the setting sun.

Dr J. A. “Gus” Ryan died #onthisday in 1974, the day before President Erskine H. Childers.

He was Director of the Cork Blood Bank and my grandfather, although his early death meant I never got to meet him. He is still spoken of with such love and admiration.

'A Tavern Brawl.' (c1953) James Fitton often captured human behaviour at its most unguarded: the awkward, the humorous, the slightly chaotic, people as they are, not as they pretend to be, quibbling, laughing, drinking, drifting, or something a little more physical.

Well, here we are.

Bishop Lucey Park has reopened after a two-year closure and redesign. And it’s very good to have this space available again.

I’m trying very hard to find the positives (there are some), but overall it is a sad failure for the public and for urban green space in Cork.

Today we’re spotlighting A Holy Place of the Druids or Grave of a Chieftain.

Edith Somerville employs a limited colour palette for this undated work of Drombeg Stone Circle. Also known as ‘The Druid’s Altar’, Drombeg is oriented towards the setting sun on the Winter Solstice.

Today we’re embracing those autumn colours with Walter Osborne’s ‘A November Morning’. The rich, warm colours and hazy, sunny skies of this late-Impressionist landscape perfectly encapsulate the coziness of the season. We can practically hear the crunching leaves! 🍂

This is a disastrous move. RTE's documentary-makers in both radio and TV are held in very high esteem all over the globe, and to shutter the in-house TV unit is as stupid as it is short-sighted.
