Valley Fever kills ~ 200 people (fewer than the number of traffic fatalities) but it heavily affects workers outside in dusty conditions (i.e. construction sites). Codes should reduce dust and protect workers. UA is working on a vaccine too.

Ppl stay inside during dust storms for obvious reasons.

A single resident in Coconino County (around Flagstaff) just died of plague after 20 yrs without an AZ death. Cases are mostly in northern AZ/NM, southern Utah, southern CA.

Do you believe those places are uninhabitable?

That is a wild description of life in Phoenix metro.

What Phoenix needs is fewer parking lots, more bikes and transit, more trees in public spaces in and out of parks, and better designed buildings for reduced AC demand. The current development model is unsustainable, as it is in CA, NV, and UT.

I agree, my point is that the desert is great for humans to live in. It’s not great for water intensive crops.

People don’t use amounts of water. The alfalfa and cotton uses a huge amount, along with mining, and now fabs too. There are a lot of golf courses that are unnecessary for humans to live in AZ.

I’d defend the mining on the grounds that it is a uniquely Arizona resource, unlike feed for cows.

Yeah, a detached home and a car has been the California dream and it’s not going away quietly.

I think LA has always just conceived of itself differently (and as self-consciously not a place like NYC or Chicago). A lot of LA progressives seem to hold to the idea that progress means a society that’s sufficiently equal that everyone can afford a SFH and a car, a nonsensical idea in say NYC.

It would be good if we really got photo IDs for everyone. There are too many barriers against people who don’t have a birth certificate or live in a rural area w/o transportation.

Inmate reintegration ppl know how important an ID can be. Allow more documents and send ID buses to small towns.
