The real estate industry has pushed this regressive policy for years. They don't tell you that the introduction of the exclusion cap in 1997 led to a dramatic increase in house prices. The gains for the sellers were far outweighed by the losses for potential buyers.

Differences between the two studies: We have price data for nine chains, they have data for only one. We have store-specific wage data from Glassdoor and industry wage data from QCEW; they assume wages equal exactly the minimum wage.

I used to get right on the Eastern Airlines shuttles (Boston, LaGuardia, DC National) and buy a ticket on the plane. And they guaranteed a seat to anyone who showed up, with a plane and crew in reserve for even one passenger.
