After DOGE miscreants scuttled this event at the Wilson Center in April, it is great that "Artifact War" is being shown at Smith College tomorrow & will also feature the originally planned discussion between @stevenhyde.bsky.social and Amr al-Azm.

I was honored to be invited to contribute a piece to the newly published @shafrhistorians.bsky.social Passport Roundtable paying tribute to the Cold War International History Project, formerly at @wilsoncenter.org. CWIHP will thrive elsewhere.

I am grateful to a friend who found and sent these original picture prints from Spain, which show Saddam Hussein meeting with the Ba'th Party's "Founding Leader" Michel 'Aflaq and the two of them attending National Command meetings together.

Both the House & Senate versions of the "Big Beautiful Bill" allocate $5 million to @wilsoncenter.org. This is a 2/3 reduction in federal funding, but not the complete cutoff called for in the original Heritage Foundation marching orders. Are they planning to buy or lease Teslas with the money? 🤔

This is a laughably ignorant statement from the acting chairman of the DOGEd and MAGAfied @wilsoncenter.org. Wilson's programs, staff & scholars were crucial to performing its essential functions. Lee Hamilton & Jane Harman were central to orienting the center towards Congress. 1/2

Along with all the other problems with this piece, Bret Stephens demonstrates his profound ignorance on Operation Inherent Resolve & the Battle of Mosul. The Iraqis didn't endlessly bomb & play whack a mole; they advanced head-on, suffering massive casualties. 1/

I was grateful to be gifted the second volume of Nizar Hamdoon's memoirs. From the look of the book, it seems like there will also be a third volume, covering between the late-90s and the end of his life. The first volume was also published in English under two different titles.

The people & programs that made the Wilson Center great have been terminated. Considering the rogue's gallery of frauds and scoundrels recently appointed to the board there, this termination letter could not have come soon enough.

Miguel Garcia generously sent me a copy of his 2018 book "Iraqi Mirages in Combat" from Spain. While researching the book, he was able to speak with many Iraqi pilots, staff officers, and ground crews, along with French technicians. It can be purchased on Amazon.
