IDK. Not torturing people was a big step towards peace.

If the Nobel committee thought Obama deserved the prize for not being as bad as Bush, I'm OK with that.

I just wish they'd also given Biden one for not being as bad as Trump. That alone would probably have been enough to make Trump stroke out

Bowling Alone has had a 10-year head start, maybe.

I have not read Bowling Alone, but I have read The Pursuit of Loneliness and 120 pages of Thinking F & S, so by the time-honoured tradition of faking it and engaging in some BS-artistry, I can claim at parties to have read both.

Kinda wish he'd straight out called them both PABs; but the Captain has more class than I do.

Trump loves being the pot that calls the kettle black.

Maybe it's him, not Stephen Miller, who is the vampire. It seems like Trump can't see himself in the mirror.😼

It's a pretty close race between Cruz, Vance, and the Trump spawn for unlikeability.

I'm pretty sure that the character Boy Kavalier from Alien: Earth was inspired by Elon Musk, along with some other aspiring trillionaires; although in that show the main pop culture reference point is Peter Pan, not Pinocchio.

Bill Mitchell's statement is like saying "If it wasn't for winning a majority of voters, Democrats would never win anything."

Trump can't get credit for ending the war until he actually ends the war.

I have never written a 5 paragraph essay in my life. I'm assuming (1) intro -- thesis statement; (2-4) 3 points; (5) conclusion: I am smart. 😅

I quite like Vampires, but yeah, if Carpenter didn't have to make those casting compromises, it would have been EPIC.

Anything he's done is interesting, if not always successful.

First heard about him from an article in Time about Dark Star, which is how we kids in the 70s learned about movies.

OTOH, Michael Idov, a writer (novels, film and TV) I quite like, did not recently get chotinered when he talked about how authoritarians like Trump and Putin treat the media like Jimmy Kimmel: archive.ph/WoX6u

TY. One can learn something new every day. Today, for me, it was OODA, and I've still got almost 23 hours to go.

I'm exploring the hypothesis that, in addition to Type 1 (fast) and Type 2 (slow), thinking there are also Type 3 (metacognition - thinking about thinking) and Type 0 (just pulling stuff out of one's 🫏🕳️). These days, my view is that, for many people, even Type 1 thinking is a huuuge stretch goal.

These days my favourite book is Dr. Seuss's Yertle the Turtle; which your post just reminded me of. It features a literal tipping point.

I think everyone should read it.

We're definitely living in the DC universe's Bizarro world. Or at least Stephen Miller is. Pretty soon US federal buildings will be emblazoned with the slogans:

War is Peace
Ignorance is Strength
Freedom is Slavery
