Help support 2025 Alluvion Dance Chicago by donating to its Assist an Artist campaign. Added bonus, after the $500 target is met at this link, 75% of anything over that amount will help support my favorite dancer.

Saverland v. Newton (1837) is a British court case in which a man who attempted to kiss a woman without consent had half his nose bitten off. The judge ruled that "when a man kisses a woman against her will, she is fully entitled to bite his nose off, if she so pleases."

This trim warship, USS Wilmette, was involved in two famous events.
1. It sank a U-boat in Lake Michigan—a First World War prize, sunk as a target. (U-boats can’t ascend Niagara Falls.)
2. In its earlier civilian life, it capsized in the Chicago River with heavy loss of life—as the SS Eastland.
