A lot of people are criticizing the democrats who signed on to this but think about it this way:

Is this law good? No. Is it moral? No. Will it make the country a better place in any way? No. But will it win them swing votes? Also no.
58 Democrats helped Republicans pass the Laken Riley Act, which will enable Trump's ICE to put migrants *accused* of shoplifting in detention, without due process.

As in, with Trump's new call to detain 30,000 migrants in Guantanamo, these Democrats may help put them there:
