I think brands just tried to appeal to wide audiences and blast the amount of ads they put out. Posters, billboards, flyers everywhere, just trying to get their name and product on people's minds. I think this could still work today, and does in certain ways, like Chappell Roan's new EP #UWJ201 #319

I think that all of these are pretty important, but targeting behaviors can be very persuasive. I feel like seeing people's behaviors and targeting that is important when trying to persuade people to sign up/buy things as they will be more inclined to do something they already do. #UWJ201 #319

I think that both have difference uses for different times. When it comes to making tough decisions, such as an election, it can be good to hear neutrally so you get both sides of the story, as well as advocacy as long as you are getting a mix of both they both work well. #UWJ201 #319

I think it tries not to be biased, but ultimately no matter what journalists write they will have slight bias or we will perceive bias in some way as we discussed in lecture a few weeks ago. #UWJ201 #319

Due to the algorithm fueling filter bubbles, making people's views more extreme. This then makes people more argumentative and unwilling to listen to other views (most of the time) and then leads to more unrest and less cohesion amongst beliefs and less arguing. #UWJ201 #319

I think this can hold true, but depending on what the theory is and who is running the gov. In countries where there aren't differing political parties I think they'd be less likely to. In the US, having lots of trust in the gov changes per presidential term believe conspiracies against diff parties

I would say so! Filter bubbles definitely make ideas and opinions much more strong and the opposition to the other side more extreme, so a correlation between those and hostility + extremity would make a lot of sense. Especially when we don't see others with moderate opinions often. #UWJ201 #319

This is likely from lived experience, from a young age we're taught about having opinions and reacting to others opinions respectfully rather than attacking them. Since media isn't face to face and without inflection/seeing intention, it's easier to think it's attacking our opinions #UWJ201 #319

I relate to a lot of these, but definitely all relationships, leisure, social citizenship, and wellness. This is reflected in what I post on insta as well as my "for you page" on tiktok and insta as I often get a lot of videos regarding these topics since I like them more than others #UWJ201 #319

I think it's a double edged sword. It helps make online friends and stay connected to folks all around the world/that you've lost touch with. It also can lead to FOMO and problems as far as bullying, exclusion, judgement, talking behind people's backs, etc. I have experience with both #UWJ201 #319

This is an interesting idea, but I think this could turn into a similar environment as a lot of social media platforms. Even the current political climate, there are still activities that marginalize groups, so it might be difficult to organize/not cross lines between gov and citizens. #UWJ201 #319

This definitely happens to me as well! Since the patrols of just regular proceedings and general safeness of campus life, that isn't interesting enough for the news to report on. So when the few unsafe moments DO happen, it is a lot more alarming and sticks with us longer. #UWJ201 #319

I think some of these still apply to digital journalism, such as the headlining story on the NYTimes website. You can also be the first to break a story and its easier to spread when online as well circulating your name. Perhaps getting the most reads and shares is a motive as well? #UWJ201 #319

I totally agree! I think that sometimes the new avatars can be sort of creepy and they freak me out a bit so I'd rather have something not resembling humans as they are both AI either way. I think it would be interesting to see a study on how people respond/prefer to both avatars! #UWJ201 #319

I don’t think that investigative journalism has necessarily died down, but I think that less people are seeking it. With our shortened attention spans it’s easier to try and find a news breaking story on TikTok or twitter rather than going to NY times and reading a full in depth investigation.

I don’t think there is a magic formula for creating an attention grabbing ad, but I think they probably look at successful ads in the past and what tactics they use. Such as emotional connections, simplicity, consistency, etc, and they probably also test on people to see what works.
