South Florida Pro Sports are what we're all about! Welcome to the Bluesky home of The Miami Sports Report! News about the Marlins, Heat, Dolphins, Panthers, and Herons! (Note: Hurricanes not covered here despite NIL laws.)
Yesterday, the shoe dropped. Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel announced the team is benching QB Tua Tagovailoa, making him the 3rd string emergency QB vs the Bengals. 2025 7th round pick Quinn Ewers will make his first start, with Zack Wilson backing him up.

Reading takes on the game later, I was reminded that Tua padded his stats pretty well in the 4th quarter as the Steelers let up. Through 3 quarters there really was no comparing his performance to Rodgers'.
I was laying the blame pretty much on Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, seemed indecisive and just incapable of stretching the field. After the game I looked at his and Aaron Rodgers' lines and was amazed how similar they are.
TUA - 22/28, 253Y, 2TD/1INT, 4 sacks.
RODGERS - 23/27, 224Y, 2TD/0INT, 3 sacks.

Well, at least the sense of desperate hope ended early this time. The Steelers use a dominant 2nd and 3rd quarter to beat the Dolphins on Monday Night Football, 28-15. At 6-8, the Dolphins have been eliminated from playoff contention.

Inter Miami has defeated Vancouver 3-1, and are your 2025 MLS Cup CHAMPIONS!
De Paul, and Allende with the goals for the Herons, along with a Vancouver own goal. Messi assists both Herons goals.

The Dolphins get a late pick-2 (Fitzpatrick returning an INT on a 2-pt conversion attempt), see the refs blow an onside kick penalty (refs ruled it touched the Dolphins, replay shows it did not), but the defense gets a 4th and 1 stop. Fins beat the Saints 21-17, now 4-1 in their last 5.

STUNNER - A listing Dolphins team looked set to be stomped by their division rival Buffalo. But it was MIAMI that controlled the game start to finish, shocking the Bills 30-13.
November 9, 2025 at 9:06 PM
In a somewhat surprising move, the Dolphins have "mutually parted ways" with GM Chris Grier. The move itself is no surprise as Grier has overseen an absolute failure of a rebuild, striking out on multiple free agents and draft picks.
The surprise is coach McDaniel will remain the rest of the season.

So Where's THIS Been? - Tagovailoa goes 20/26 for 205 yards and 4 TD passes, and the Dolphins surprisingly DOMINATE the Falcons, 34-10.

Random observation watching the Fins: Does anyone else feel like Tua throws a really floaty ball? I observe a lot of his passes and feel like even on the completions, if he had some more zip on it, it'd go for more yardage.

Heartbreaker - 8 minutes left, the Fins were down 13 to the Chargers. They scored TDs on back to back drives to take the lead with 48 seconds left. 1st and 10, Herbert looks sacked, but escapes and finds man streaking downfield. Bolts kick the game-winner with 5 seconds left and win 29-27. Fins 1-5.

The Dolphins race out to a 17-0 lead on Carolina early...then the bottom falls out of the offense. The Defense can't hang on (helped by some seriously questionable flags) and the Panthers come back to beat Miami 27-24.
October 5, 2025 at 8:15 PM
Costly Victory - The Dolphins get their first win of the season, beating the Jets 27-21 on Monday Night Football. However, WR Tyreek Hill dislocated his left knee and left the game. The Fins expect to learn more Tuesday but that injury is almost always a season-ender.

The Marlins finish a far better than expected '25 season with a nice cherry: spoiling the Mets' season. Fish beat NY 4-0, which eliminates them. A Marlins team expected to be terrible finishes only 4 games under .500 at 79-83, and only 4 games back of the Reds for the final NL Wild Card.
September 29, 2025 at 1:25 AM
In a preseason finale in which the Dolphins starters played a concerningly long time, the Fins sneak by the Jaguars 14-6. Dolphins finish the preseason 2-0-1. Fins head to Indy for the season opener, 9/7 1pm CBS.

There was a lot of talk earlier this week about the Lions dominating the Dolphins in a practice session.

So yeah, Dolphins beat the Lions 24-17 in Preseason Week 2.

The Heat are trading F Haywood Highsmith and a 2032 2nd round pick to the Nets for a 2026 conditional 2nd round pick. The move gets the Heat under the luxury tax line, as the Nets had the cap space to roster Highsmith without sending salary back to the Heat.

Well, We Didn't Lose - The Dolphins preseason debut ends in a 24-24 tie with the Bears (no OT in preseason).
Tagovailoa (who lobbied to play) goes 1 series, 5/6 for 27 yards. In the battle of the backups, Wilson goes 5/9 for 96 yards, and Ewers goes 5/18 for 91 yards.
August 10, 2025 at 8:19 PM
The Marlins made a move, but not the one people were expecting. The Fish send C Nick Fortes to the Rays for OF Matthew Etzel, a struggling and injured minor-league OF.
The trade is a corresponding move for the Rays trading C Danny Jansen to Milwaukee for IF Jadher Areinamo.

Unpopular Opinion: Inter Miami stars Lionel Messi and Jordi Alba have been suspended for Saturday's match against Cincinnati after skipping the MLS All Star Game.
I know it's going to be an extremely unpopular opinion amongst Herons fans...but I agree with the decision. Let's talk about it.

Hey now, you’re an All Star - Marlins OF Kyle Stowers goes 0-2 with 2 strikeouts during the All Star Game, but hit a critical home run during the first tiebreaker HR Derby. Another Kyle, the Phillies Schwarber, hit 3 to give the NL a 4-3 win.
July 16, 2025 at 11:34 AM
With the 43rd pick, the Marlins selected Cam Cannarella, CF, Clemson. Cannarella saw his power drop in college after a shoulder injury but is a solid hitter and a fast runner.
With the 46th pick, the Marlins took Brandon Compton OF, Arizona State. He projects as a DH in the big leagues.
July 14, 2025 at 1:28 AM
With the 7th pick in the 2025 MLB Draft, the Miami Marlins selected Aiva Arquette, SS, Oregon State. Arquette is seen as a majors-ready bat with a big 6-5 220lb frame that likely portends a move to 3rd in the majors.
July 14, 2025 at 1:23 AM
Salary Cap Wizardry - Panthers GM Bill Zito pulls some strings, waves the wand, and the Panthers Big 3 are staying in Sunrise. D Aaron Ekblad resigns for 8 years, $48M, and C Brad Marchand is staying put, 6 years, $31M. Both players took less money to keep the Cats' core together.
July 1, 2025 at 11:36 AM
Welcome Back - The Dolphins have traded CB Jalen Ramsey and TE Jonnu Smith to the Steelers for former Fins CB Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 pick swap (7th to 5th).
June 30, 2025 at 3:31 PM
Sam's Buying Dinner - The Panthers lock up their most important free agent, re-signing Conn Smythe winner C Sam Bennett to an 8 year, $64M contract extension.
