These findings provide insight into a potential mechanism underlying the heterogeneity in the insomnia-cognition literature; whether older adults have a distinct active and sleep period may be a determinant of whether cognitive impairments arise!

Some key highlights:

💤 Older adults with insomnia exhibited dampened RARs with greater activity during the rest period

🧠 More robust and stable RARs were associated with better attention performance, irrespective of insomnia diagnosis
