Let's preview #NUFC at #AVFC.

Typically for a preview, I'll watch the opponents most recent match, and pull metrics, maybe screenshots.

No idea what magic Unai added this year (or Howe), but here’s the core of Villa’s game: patience and structure. 🧵

One bit of speculation is that Emi Martinez is in a slump. According to Fbref.com’s “post shot expected goals minus goals allowed” (basically, the likelihood of saving a shot based on its location), Martinez is 33rd in the PL.

(o.o.p. cont'd)

This possibly feeds into why Ipswich has the 3rd highest xGA in the PL despite their layered defensive approach.

On Saturday, #NUFC travel to Portman Road to play the Tractor Boys. Here are some things that stood after watching Wolves-ITFC.

3) Leaky Bees defence. Their out of possession setup looks similar to past campaigns: man-marking in a high press, relying on a mammoth backline to handle long balls evading the press.

However, this approach is susceptible to switches. The more technical sides that switch play will find space.

1) Goals will be scored… by everyone. Brentford are among the best at scoring goals (especially with their kick-off routines), and they are also giving up nearly as many goals.
