Somehow people have forgotten that 99% of deconstruction of the Jedi in the prequels started as a fan interpretation and that Lucas genuinely thought he was portraying the Jedi as pure good. It wasn't until The Last Jedi that this idea entered the actual films

Yep, loved Ace Ventura as a kid because I had no idea being a trans woman was a real thing and not something they made up for the film. Finding out the truth was not a fun experience.

The Last Jedi instantly became part of the anti-woke culture wars so that's honestly already been played out (just for the record, I enjoyed that film). I simply cannot see anyone willing to defend The Rise of Skywalker, ever.

I've no doubt Lucas is a sincere anti-fascist, but his carelessness with tropes and images goes all the way back to borrowing from the most famous scene of Triumph of the Will for the medal ceremony at the end of the original Star Wars

I had plenty of online friends who were sympathetic to the prequels! Absolutely none of them bothered to defend Episode 1. It was TROS that heated the discourse up that large numbers of people were actually willing to say "Episode 1 was good"
