Illustrations too. Nowadays lots of people think writers can just paste the text in and press a button, but there are books that are far improved by the artist's choices on how to depict the subject.
Like Caroline Young's 'The Usborne Book of the Haunted World' illustrated by Graham Humphreys.

Consistency, what's that? Huwatz' snout has always given me so much trouble.
And since Vaiho's only visible features are eyes, those really gotta do a lot of heavy lifting.

It seems that my best art of my characters are mostly outfit studies.
All these characters exist in my own fantasy world. Huwatz - a novice priestess, Vaiho - a scholar, Teeca - a spunky slum kid and Ashodem - an apprentice craftsman.
(I have more, but I don't have art I feel like sharing of them)
Anthropomorphic female dragon, her colors reminiscent of a siamese cat. Three outfit variants, all with asian influences in shades of pink. First simple streetwear with a short wrap dress, second a kimono-like robe, and third an elaborate, layered robe with a headdress and makeup. Male character with dark blue skin, only discernible features in their face a pair of luminescent blue-purple eyes. Four outfit variants mostly in shades of yellow, brown and grey, all covering most of their skin, and including a hood. Two characters, female and male, both young, in four outfit variants. First is fantasy-esque streetwear, next punk/goth with black leather and spikes, third formal wear with the female in a pink-white dress and the male in a grey suit, and fourth a fantasy RPG styled armor in blue and green, and red and brown respectively.
