We are so excited to introduce you to our two new residents - Gertrude and Eloise! These two girls were in danger of immediate slaughter but were rescued just in time by our friends at Eastern Snouts Adoption and Rehoming. This photo is the moment they arrived!

In case you missed the big news: bsky.app/profile/merr...
We have the most wonderful news! This is the news we've been hoping desperately for since March: OLIVIA AND GLADYS ARE SAFE! The judge ruled against their former owner in the forfeiture case, so Olivia and Gladys will be safe and fed and warm and loved here at Merrymac for the rest of their lives. ❤️

Yes!

Probably! But the flavored cheerios tend to have more added sugar and other ingredients that we avoid giving the animals if possible so we stick to the classic Cheerios.

Billy spent the first few days in an area right next to George and Charlie, and then slowly was allowed to go out with them. He was so anxious to actually be with them that we sped up the process because he seemed depressed to not actually be in the same area as them.

Kelly from Rising Star was talking to Mary from Mustang Valley and Kelly encouraged Mary to reach out to us. In the end we have three great rescue/sanctuaries working together to make sure an animal is in the very best place he should be in.

However, with time and observation the sanctuary realized that Billy really needed the company of other donkeys. Networking among sanctuaries is so vital for all species, and we had worked with Rising Star Rescue in CT in the past to bring our two wonderful BLM donkeys Charlie and George to us.

This often leads to them ending up in kill pens destined for slaughter, but Billy was one of the lucky ones who was rescued and adopted out. Sadly his adopter became ill and passed away, which is how Billy and the woman's miniature horse and mustang all luckily landed at Mustang Valley Sanctuary.

He was originally rescued from a Bureau of Land Management (BLM) auction. Throughout many western and southwestern U.S. states the BLM regularly rounds up wild donkeys and horses living on public lands and auctions many of them off to anyone willing to pay.
