I'm not a particularly huge fan of his know-it-all attitude but y'all need a reality check for yourselves in the parts you *didn't* play in the initiative before you start pointing fingers at someone who bothered to voice an opinion in the first place.

Again, everyone sucks here.

If any currently vocal creators and critics of Thor really cared about the initiative, they would have put a rocket up the initiative's ass months ago. But to sit there now and blame Thor for being partially responsible for its failure because of his influence when they didn't use theirs?

Nah.

He says it means a lot to him, the initiative, but he also never did anything with it?

*Everyone* sucks here. I have reasons to not agree with the way the initiative is phrased which is why I'm not signing it. Thor is being a stubborn ass wipe about his part and Charlie is virtue signaling to shit.

But now that the initiative is about to flop and stay dead in the water, everyone suddenly cares and Thor is a primary contributor to it going down.

I don't believe that. Whether Thor's a narcissistic ass or not, Charlie didn't talk about SKG in any meaningful capacity until now.

I've been devastated and bawled so much. Dette and Minke were my lifeline for well over a decade. He's turning 15 this year, but I don't think he'll make it long enough to his birthday in August.

I love them both so incredibly much and to have lost and be losing both of them hurts beyond words.

If you want us to feel represented, have average people be superheroes where diabetes is part of their day to day life but not the source of their powers. Just like how our actual real life is like.

Heroes in spite of diabetes, not because of it.

Do better everyone.

You don't NEED a pump for good management. You don't NEED to be in range at all times in order to be able to perform well. With these key points left out entirely, this doesn't represent us. It tokenizes us to bring money into Insulet's pockets.

Just... don't.
June 19, 2025 at 1:48 PM
Does that mean all points in the comic are wrong? No, of course bad days suck and medical devices help us tremendously. But this is a misrepresentation of what living with diabetes is like.

If we suffer, it's because our support system and healthcare providers failed us.
June 19, 2025 at 1:48 PM
It is and remains a disability and while loops systems are helpful they are NOT magic solutions to our struggles!!! And disabilities aren't what define us as heroes, what we consciously choose to do to make the world better is what does!!!

This is disability inspo porn. And it's gross.
June 19, 2025 at 1:48 PM
But what really icks me out the most is honestly the implication that we can only be superheroes when we're in range. It's a gross manipulation tactic by Omnipod to get you to buy their pump for your kids so they can feel their chronic disability is a superpower.

Diabetes is not a superpower.

Then there's the insulin to carb ratio. If that's off, every meal becomes a struggle. You're supposed to adjust it until you get a good idea of what works and 70% of the time you're in range. You're supposed to be mindful of your diet (not exclude shit, be mindful) to help get this right too.

If she's constantly dysregulated she needs to do basal rate testing. Long-acting insulin, or the basal rate in a pump, is the foundation of glucose control. If that's off, everything else won't work like it should either. A pump with the wrong ratios WILL NOT FUCKING WORK EITHER.
June 19, 2025 at 1:48 PM
Highs and lows are annoying and can absolutely be debilitating, but a good healthcare team will help you achieve your goals by guiding you. Someone who is so exceptionally downtrodden by such severe dysregulation needs guidance with their insulin ratios, not a pump. The setup isn't that easy.
June 19, 2025 at 1:48 PM
This definitely isn't a representation of diabetics worldwide. This is a tokenized version of diabetes where someone took only the worst days out of our lives, pretended they are an everyday occurrence (they're not), and then pretended that a loop system is a magic solution.

He bought a face mask the other day, and later tonight we're doing a face mask session while watching a show together. I'm super stoked!
