MEUSER: You've got Trudeau saying how the president is making a dumb move. That's bad diplomacy.

SANCHEZ: I'm not sure how it's good diplomacy to say that a neighboring country should be the 51st state and that you're gonna impose economic hardship to achieve that goal.

The media landscape is shrinking and social media echo chambers are growing. Local media is vital in telling community stories & celebrating Canadians. Importantly, CBC is providing ethical non-partisan news & keeping rural communities safe.

Anyone surprised?👀
With polarization at all levels of gov’t, it impacts the ability to prepare, respond & recover from a disaster.

In 2023, the McDougall Creek Wildfire impacted our community in BC wiping out 13,970 hectares (52 square miles) with 300 homes lost (a drop in the bucket compared to LA fires), but the intensity had a similar feel. We were so lucky to have firefighters from across North America and beyond assist. 🙌🏻
Through an existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with British Columbia Wildfire Services (BCWS), a total of 13 employees assisted CAL FIRE Incident Management Team 2 at the Palisades Incident beginning January 11th through today.

A paper in Nature suggests that the higher quantity of social media policy enforcement for conservative users could be explained by the higher quantity of misinformation shared by those users.

🤔 No surprise, but still interesting. Confirmation bias leads to a shrinking world view and reduces the willingness to seek and evaluate information critically.

📚Just finished reading the revised edition of The Unthinkable by Amanda Ripley and it's a game-changer for me. It offers eye-opening insights into human behaviour during disasters, helping us all prepare better and support our communities.
