Diana Buttu said Palestinians have been pushed into accepting and normalizing being spoken for. She pointed to the so-called “Trump plan,” which she described as a fully Israeli plan and designed by excluding Palestinians entirely. Buttu noted that Mahmoud Abbas was given just a 92-second interaction with Donald Trump at the Egypt summit before publicly welcoming a plan that sidelines the Palestinian Authority altogether. “We break this by disruption,” she said. Safwan Masri agreed: “We cannot be complicit in that process.” Buttu added that the Oslo Accords marked the shift from disruption to managed containment.

It’s ignoring the rest,” Buttu said. “The question you’re asking is a very dangerous question in terms of the renaissance of Palestinian leadership,” said @FadiQuran , senior director at Avaaz. “It’s not something I would say even comfortable to discuss in front of cameras… Let’s speak honestly. Who has an interest in there being a powerful, credible, inspiring, transformative Palestinian leadership? Are any Middle Eastern governments interested in seeing something like that?” Stating that Israel, United States and Europe are all opposed, he said that building leadership openly before real power exists would lead to it being crushed. Quran said Israel has failed to erase Palestinians biologically and is now pursuing what he described as “genocide by attrition plus politicide,” aimed at erasing Palestinian political agency. He pointed to repression across Gaza, the West Bank, Palestinians in 1948, and student activists in the U.S. He also addressed external political engineering, singling out the French government and how it drafted a law to be signed by Mahmoud Abbas that would bar any Palestinian party from operating unless it adheres to PLO commitments - “meaning no party but Fatah can exist.” Drop Site News reported this development earlier this month. He also referenced Drop Site’s reporting that Emmanuel Macron and EU officials were shown and allowed to comment on a draft Palestinian constitution before a single Palestinian citizen saw it. Fadi concluded: Palestinians “need to build power quietly… It’s a very difficult task.
