Huh, you seem pretty smart for a person whose only talent is the ability to memorize an enormous amount of dialogue and convincingly recite it in a dramatic setting for comedic and/or dramatic effect.

So, about chosen profile pictures. There is only one Nazi in Strangelove. Maybe he's a Peter Sellers fan, but that's the only Nazi that Sellers plays among several roles in that movie. I'm just sayin'.

I've got decades-old clothes that never miss the tumble dryer. The ones that have worn out, they have worn out honestly. Pants at the knees, shirts at the collar, and socks at the ball of the foot. That's all on me.

[contractor voice]: yeah, I see your problem right here, you've got some serious cracks in your bedrock

Isn't David Brooks still putting his words into the mouths of random taxi drivers in whatever city he is talking about? You pull the quote you want, because it was yours from the beginning. I'd wager that fully half of the red-state diners are the reporters themselves. So no, not a single one.

Every single word of this is unironically true, which is what makes it so amazing. Thanks, I had never seen this video before.

My inherent laziness makes me hope for being assigned the turkey. It's a whole lot of "do a thing then leave it alone". Brine with salt and sugar, leave it alone. Put a pound of bacon on top for self-basting, leave it alone. Hours upon hours of pretending you did things.

Have the larger households considered duck, duck, goose?
November 24, 2025 at 5:37 PM
I agree with your point, except let's get serious, cooking a turkey is not grand prix skill level stuff(ing).
Make sure it doesn't come out dry, and you've got the least expensive meat protein for a big dinner and a week of leftovers then sandwiches once the sides are gone.

There may be something to this. Perhaps Trump sees himself (2016) in Mamdani, a guy who won despite being opposed by every established politician in his party. Adams, Cuomo, Schumer, Jeffries. He either beat them or didn't need them. Mamdani didn't even have the NYT on his side while Trump did.
November 22, 2025 at 3:25 PM
This is awesome, but keep in mind this reaction is the same as most of the New Yorkers in Mamdani's on-the-street campaign videos down the stretch in the campaign. But the "ooh, baby, you can call me fascist if you want to" is new.

"Coast Guard: Swastikas not so bad, actually" maybe should be a bigger story?
November 21, 2025 at 6:31 PM
That was me for a long time, but the thing with Twitter is that it's absolutely useless for conversation, because of Elmo's rules. This place has a fraction of their traffic, but I have had far more likes, comments, and reposts of my responses here than I had there, especially near to when I quit.

Are we to assume that "Page A-16" is now a long-running inside joke for the New York Times? A clever euphemism for "bury the story"?

That lady protested by handcuffing herself to one side of one door at Twitter headquarters. This country's policies are being made on the basis of lies, and its advisors are being chosen on the basis of who are the biggest idiots. A recipe for disaster.
