I've never studied history in higher education-my degrees are interdisciplinary welfare studies-social sciences & social policy-but historical elements have always been there-for example in the evolution of the British welfare state.

Yes, I've heard that was the reason for the ill-fated Western Design and subsequent Anglo-Spanish war too. At least the |Protectorate gained Jamaica out of those adventures, but not their intended goals.
