for all the faults the US has, we’re miles ahead of europe in terms of even just talking about racism and slavery, even with how horrible the impact has been and continues to be today. part of it is likely due to us being a settler-colonial state, but it does feel we’re at least addressing it

This is one of the reasons why I don’t believe in up front design. Like I said to a junior once: «You’ve made all sorts of decisions, but you don’t know enough to decide these things.»

This is also why estimation is fundamentally broken: we don’t know enough. Finding out is part of solving it.
