In our Saltmarsh game last night, I suggested dropping (weapon) proficiencies entirely. I was happy when one of the vet players (since late 70s) agreed, saying “everything in AD&D is optional anyway.” So different from some of rules-as-written purists. Rock n roll baby!

Picked up a full RPG and a solo engine for less than half the price of a 1/3 part of WotC’s interpretation of Arneson & Gygax’s game. Cairn looks awesome so far!

We finally finished the Enemy Within campaign after 5 years (and some fiddling with the rules). Thanks to @tristanarbro.bsky.social for running the game.

It’s a real pleasure to be running this adventure in the original format. After a bit of an existential crisis for the group, we appear back on track. Next session is session 4!

My first new RPG purchases in a while skew towards solo play: a physical copy of the Feretory for Mork Borg (expensive but I liked the pdf so much that, well…), and a solo adventure for a Japanese system called Rogue-like Half.

History repeats itself with variation, and the camps of the 21st century will be sanitised and unreal echoes of the previous century’s, or else how could we allow them?

Unfortunately a friend and key member of my face-to-face and Wednesday online groups has removed himself from said groups. Politics. So the groups are needing a bit of recalibrating: back to OSE on Wednesday, easy enough… But TOR on Sunday might be tricky with 3 players…

1/First session of my full One Ring campaign saw our companions travel from Bree to Sarn Ford to investigate possible banditry and a mysterious eerie light emanating from a distant ruin. On the way they avoided a large band of sinister armed men, saw remains murderous plunder, and met with a ranger

Yellow Submarine is the best (and one of the few) game stores in Kansai. Osaka has two stores, and Kyoto one. To the best of my knowledge, they no longer sell English-language RPGs - Japanese only.
