There is a good probability that the universe is a fantastic, magical, meaningful and purposeful place (and so is our own existence).
Brain is not a machine because in the design and creation of machines, engineers deliberately prevent unpredictable behavior and randomness. Biological organisms work with just the opposite principle:++
Neuroscience needs a new paradigm: the brain is not a machine | By Nicole Rust

I’ve just finished reading Rupert Sheldrake’s book “The Science Delusion”. I am impressed; it is much more inspiring than I expected. Rupert is not only a good scientist, but also a good writer; engages the reader and brings convincing evidences and resources.++

The problem with dualism is that, if it was true, we should have seen some anomalous phenomena in the brain that cannot be explained by physical interactions. But so far we did not observe any such anomaly. Rather, we have been able to explain neuronal activity with purely physical interactions. ++

99% of things happening in an #AI model are simply multiplication and summation operations. The rest 1% is also not so magical. If we didn't have any reason in the past to think that the calculators are conscious, today there is also no reason to think that current AI is conscious. ++

There is a fundamental difference between the way silicon-based AI comes into existence and carbon-based life emerges. ++

It took me more than 4 years to capture a scene I could only dream of. A magnificent Condor soars above the peaks of Argentina's Mount Fitz Roy, as they are spot lit in beautiful morning light. 🪶

Interesting that on Twitter this post is getting 'Go to hell, the woke are evil!' and here it's getting 'But what about Buddhism?' 🤣
Jesus was incredibly woke. What kinds of things made Jesus angry? People who care too much about tradition, people who care too much about social status, market transactions in a holy place...

What is the true state of #AI currently? Does it really deserve all the hype it gets especially in the last 1-2 months? Many folks are discussing that we already reached or at least got very close to reaching #AGI (artificial general intelligence). Is it really the case?

#Determinism is incompatible with the notion of time as the 4th dimension. It collapses the “future” aspect to “now”, as if there is no “information” in the “future” aspect of existence.

The last photo of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya, detained after refusing to abandon his colleagues and patients.

In just one image, we see both the power of Palestinian humanity and the moral weakness of all those complicit in genocide.

End all arms sales to Israel, now.

‘According to Strawson the “most remarkable episode in the history of human thought" is that those believers deny the existence of something that everyone knows with certainty to exist: conscious experience, a first-person phenomenal perspective.’ #consciousness #physicalism #philosophy
Physicalism Is Dead
There is movement in the sciences of consciousness. Physical reductionism, which attempted to annihilate subjective experience, is challenged by several alternative conceptions.

Machine #consciousness cannot exit. It is an absurd idea just from the start. For artificial consciousness, we should look into synthetic biology, not #AI.
The assumption behind "conscious AI" is that consciousness is a cognitive function (#functionalism). ++

Last spring, Washington state passed a bill banning commercial octopus farming.

Today, we (myself and 99 others, led by Jennifer Jacquet, Becca Franks, Peter Godfrey-Smith, and Walter Sanchez-Suarez) have a letter in Science supporting the US OCTOPUS Act, which would do the same nationwide.

Illusionism is both absurd and significant and consistent at the same time. Because, the underlying epistemology of modern thinking is insufficient. Check the book Galileo's Error by Philip Goff.
