I have been blithely using the terms "en dash" and "em dash" for — basically — ever.
TODAY, I found out that they're called that because they're supoosed to be as wide as the letters n and m, respectively.

Oooh. I've been learning French for, what, 37 years (how that's possible when I'm only about 28 is a mystery), and have only just come across the expression "entre chien et loup", which means twilight/dusk, and is really rather lovely, non?
