Really good 3 minute read for on the train or bus. Gets us thinking about the reasons to look at brain health and why it is vital for everybody not just those suffering from Dementia and other associated neurodegenerative conditions.

FDA clears the first blood test to aid in diagnosis of Alzheimer’s. "Today marks another important step in Alzheimer’s diagnosis,” says @mariacarrilloalz.bsky.social “With today’s action, we are hopeful it will be easier for more individuals to receive an accurate diagnosis earlier.” bit.ly/4mznvP4

Imagine a world in which we can diagnose dementias in a single blood test that would reshape the way we think about diagnosis and who we are going to look at for diagnosis.
In case you missed it: the FDA cleared the first blood test to help diagnose Alzheimer’s this week.

For too long, Americans have struggled to get a simple and accurate diagnosis. This action is a step toward earlier, less invasive detection, which can lead to better access to care and treatment.
First FDA-cleared Alzheimer's blood test could make diagnoses faster, more accurate
The first Alzheimer's blood test cleared by the Food And Drug Administration is poised to change the way doctors diagnose and treat the disease.

This $5 million can change the way we think about AD treatments and how we look at personalised treatments. These studies take a very long time and can even require 5 years (doi: 10.3390/ijms25073909), this all needs funding and will change the way we think of AD treatments going ahead.

This is critical. The prevalence of AD is 6.7-12.6% (doi: 10.1002/alz.13850) and yet the research only makes up 3.35% on pubmed of the total papers on AD in the last 10 years.
