I really can’t blame leadership for this. He left town in the middle of the night on the last day of session right before a crucial vote without telling anyone. He embarrassed the caucus and forced leadership to suspend their own rules to push the legislation through. His actions have consequences.

I agree. The higher the value, the more incentive to return the container. I often drive through Iowa on my way to/from Wisconsin and don’t bat an eye at the 5c deposit when deciding what to purchase. I don’t think that a container deposit would deter sales.

I moved from Wisconsin to Illinois for job opportunities and for the greater protections afforded to marginalized communities. I don’t regret leaving Wisconsin. As much as I love the state I grew up in, my mental and physical health is much more important.

It’s a sad commentary on the American health care system when state governments are forced to step in and ensure patients aren’t billed for the procedure (that they have no control over!) taking longer than an arbitrary time limit.

Iowa also has a container deposit. I would love it because I currently don’t have access to recycling at my apartment building and I feel guilty every time I throw away something like a LaCroix can.
