He goes back to perusing the shelves, studying the various covers with interest. "You must have spent years assembling this," be muses, randomly picking up a book and skimming the back cover. "How do you have it organized?" "Genre, then by author," I say. "Theré's classic literature in that corner, borror to your left. Fantasy, historical fiction, science fiction..." Luke nods, impressed. But then be stops at one particular shelf, and the corner of bis mouth twists into a sly grin. My heart drops as I realize what bé's looking at the romance novels. Fucking bell. "Well, well," Luke chuckles, facing me with a devilish grin. "Now I understand. This is where it comes from." "What? I swallow bard, trying to act like I don't know exactly what bé's looking at. "Your preferences," be says, his voice dropping a register, sending a chill down my spine. He folds his arms across his chest and leans against the bookshelf with a positively feline stance, looking me up and down with a new fire in his eye, covetous in its own right. I swallow bard. "You're a hopeless romantic." 'Those were an old girlfriends," I lie patbetically. Luké's smile only grows. "Ob, I didn't need to see the books to figure you out, baby," Luke chuckles. "I already found out all your tells a while ago. I know what you like." "Lies. Pure lies.” Luke pushes himself off the shelf and stalks across the room to me gracefully, and I find myself backed into the corner with nowhere to go as be looms over me. Before I can say anything, be pins me to the wall, one band cupping my chin, tilting my bead up so that our faces are only inches apart. My eyes widen, and my body betrays me, shivering against my control. My heart's pounding. It doesn't go unnoticed. Luke smiles triumphantly before pressing bis lips to mine, instantly turning my brain to mush as be kisses me like in my wildest fantasies. When be pulls away, be drags his hand down my throat and over my heaving chest and stares at my mouth before lifting his eyes to meet mine, and I shudder at the possessiveness in his gaze. The way be seems to see through my soul. "Keep telling yourself that, sweetheart," he purrs softly, and my insides turn molten. "Okay, fine," I say breathlessly, grabbing his shirt by the collar. "Shut up and come here, you fucking bastard." Then he kisses me til the world goes hazy, and I feel the magic of this sacred space mingling with our jagged breaths.

He sends me a selfie sitting in the driver's seat, presumably one he took during the day since it's sunny in the background. He's wearing his sunglasses, giving a self- assured grin as he poses in the most flattering way possible, almost like he was made for the camera. There's a handwritten note edited over the image that says 'mine' in cursive with a small heart dotted over the 'i.' I study that picture for a long minute, unable to keep the smile from my face. Not only does Luke look good in the truck, but the idea of him showing off that he's been driving it warms my heart. Still, I can't help but write a snarky reply. "E: Nice try, but this isn't a hostage situation. We don't negotiate with terrorists, even if they are pretty."

Luke kisses me, tangling his hands in my hair at the root, sending a shiver down my spine. And when he slowly starts rocking his hips back and forth, I don't have control of the breathy moan that escapes my lips.

Tamora Pierce Song of the Lioness series! I was introduced to them when I was in college but friends of mine grew up reading them. It was nice to see what kinds of books shaped them in their childhoods. It was my first dip into a fantasy series with a female protagonist and I loved it! #Bookvember

Going stealth with their relationship is hard, and Ethan eventually comes to the decision to be a little more open around his friends who don’t know he’s bi and dating Luke. It’s a small act of bravery, and choosing his love for Luke over his fear of being perceived.
A little while later, as we're eating, I casually reach out and place my hand on Luke's knee under the counter in a way that's not obvious but still feels significant as I idly brush my thumb back and forth in a soothing motion. Luke tilts his head slightly and gives me a sharp look from the corner of his eye, which tells me he's surprised by the action. I can tell he's concerned that it's too risky as he glances at the others. But he still smiles into his coffee mug, nonetheless, and leans over the counter to reach his free hand to grasp mine just as stealthily. As he gently squeezes my fingers, I can't deny that it feels freeing. Cathartic. It might not be an earth-shattering declaration, but it's a monumental step in the right direction for meone I could never have accomplished without Luke's unwavering patience and compassion. Seeing the quiet appreciation in Luke's eyes makes all the struggle to get here worth it.

It’s always cobwebs of confusion and never cobwebs full of spiders.

Ethan bb is embarrassed after their first kiss went haywire because Luke believed he was straight. Turns out he wasn’t. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
"I'm bi, okay?" I interrupt him sharply, the confession like broken glass in my mouth. "I didn't tell you that when you asked because I didn't know. I just figured it out recently." Luke gapes at me like I've just dropped a bomb on him. I stare back, knowing I just bared my soul, and now I'm waiting for the proverbial axe to fall on my neck. I bury my face in my hands as the embarrassment threatens to take me over. It wasn't the most elegant way I would have preferred to reveal the truth, but now that it's in the open, I can't deny the weight that has been lifted off my chest. "Does that mean..." Luke starts, shaking his head like he's clearing away cobwebs. "Am / the reason you figured out you were bi?" God, kill me now. Just strike me down right here on the spot and save the universe the trouble of having to exist with me in it. Let me die on the beach in a freak tidal wave instead of having to answer this question. Maybe send that bear my way so he can still have that good meal he deserves and rid me of this nightmare. My face burns with shame as I look away, unable to meet Luke's eye.
