3 million child deaths were linked to rising antimicrobial resistance. Africa & Asia are the most impacted regions. The growing threat of AMR is one of most consequential threats to global public health. Another reason to invest & not defund research.

A really cool study just published used metagenomic sequencing to uncover viral causes of unexplained fevers in Uganda. Of 230 patients who had tested negative for common infections, 19% had viral pathogens—ranging from respiratory and GI viruses to deadly viruses.

So much of the cutting that has been happening in US-government funded science threatens the future of scientific discovery in this country. @usha.bsky.social reports on yet another, the termination of a summer internship program at #NIH for college students. www.statnews.com/2025/03/05/t...

And then there's gonorrhea.

It has developed resistance to nearly all antibiotics used against it—we're down to one last recommended and effective class

-> 600K+ cases reported in the US each year
-> Medicaid helps those most at risk with testing & treatment, which is crucial to stop resistance

It’s been a tough few weeks. My 10yo daughter was diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive cancer called interdigitating dendritic cell sarcoma (IDCS). I’m reaching out to identify clinicians/patients who have encountered pediatric IDCS or other (non-LCH) dendritic or histiocytic sarcomas cases.

Much love and support to my colleagues at the CDC and NIH who are probably super unsure what’s going on, don’t know how it’s affecting their programs, but somehow have to keep doing their day to day because the work is important and people depend on them. ❤️ #IDsky
