The dueling missives from Nuzzi and Lizza show two showboats trying to out-detail each other, with maudlin prose dissecting a relationship that's portrayed as tortured, but was really just between two careless narcissists. It belies an attitude of "maybe if I craft this artfully enough, my mortifying actions will have been worth something." Never have two people appeared more committed to the idea that you can write your way out of a jam.

Absolutely heart wrenching account from inside the Adelanto Detention center. A few excerpts:
Almost none of those in custody in their Adelanto ICE detention facility will actually reenter the society they lived in when they were taken there. Most of them will be deported. A few have died. GEO says they provide "complementary, turnkey solutions for numerous government partners worldwide." Given their status as a leader in the big business of detention centers in the United States, the words "turnkey solutions," feels it could be a joke. Walking in, the desert outside: open, infinite, full of light, wild, dangerous - and this place are in stark conflict: controlled, beige, and in a manufactured stasis. It is a simulation of safety for people on the outside who have likely never really felt unsafe. A woman walks up to me. Her face is beet red, and she walked through the facility's parking lot. The woman's eyes cried themselves swollen. As she walks, she doesn't appear to be walking in one direction towards her vehicle. She's just walking.

Pretty soon we’re gonna have to revise up the “40% of all cops” statistic
Staff members at ICE's training academy in Brunswick, Georgia, recently discovered one recruit had previously been charged with strong-arm robbery and battery stemming from a domestic violence incident, the current DHS official said. They've also found as recently as this month that some recruits going through the six-week training course hadn't submitted fingerprints for background checks, as ICE's hiring process requires, the current and former DHS officials said.
