War ja auch nicht zum Verzehr gedacht, sondern zum Stabilisieren von Farben. Wer hätte gedacht, dass die Flasche einen mit Essig berotzt, wenn man sie schließt.

I believe that in a healthy (!!) relationship - in contrast to the one in the post - it is legitimate to get the blues, say, on your dead former partner's birth- or deathdays and to voice that. For me that would signal, that, I, too, would not be forgotten should something happen to me.

Also, the Lethal Weapon movies are works of fiction. I snuck into the cinema for 1 when I was still too young, I cheered Murtaugh on at the end of 2. I love the movies.
If a cop did anything like that in real life, I'd be the first to demand he'll be punished.

I could get telling your new partner that even though you are so lucky to have found another love like this and know it, that you still at times miss your former partner who died (without having left you first).
That wouldn't diminish what you feel for the new partner. But this? Hell, no!
