For our new virology students at the CVR we recommend Fields and Flint as useful standard references (and ViralZone for quick lookups), #TWIV and #TheNightScience for podcasts... I tend to enthuse about Diamond's 'Guns Germs and Steel' in the intro course (not unproblematic, I now know...), but...
