A few months ago, I took a marker and wrote “Write + ride + get outside” on my mirror to remind me what’s most important on endless to-do lists, so I was really excited to read this. I’ve read it three times now, and I still don’t know what’s more beautiful: this story or the writing. Perfection.

I can’t recommend this book enough. It’s a collection of short stories, essays, and photographs speaking to the very point made below.

“The Governor's Office obtained negotiation documents, names of protesters, and key operational details — at times, in advance of plans being enacted.”
Y'all, these college journalists are killing it. Check out this great series about Gov. Shapiro's attempts to influence Penn that is based on documents obtained using PA's public records law.

College journalism is real journalism.
Inside Josh Shapiro's covert push for influence at Penn
Documents obtained by the DP reveal the governor's extensive involvement in Penn's affairs, including its response to antisemitism and the pro-Palestinian encampment.

“Honestly, people are truly just looking for any thread of hope that this new reality is a nightmare we will wake up from.” - This describes my mom exactly, and brilliantly goes on to explain why it’s deeply problematic.

Can confirm. Very fun as a nonfiction writer!
This is how you become a writer: just pick one of the things that is deeply wrong with you. Make it a character. Now send it on a self-help journey or try to kill it. Now call it a book.

To suggest we should yield even a little to Trump’s odious politics is unacceptable. Even if we did, it would never be enough.

My middle and high schools taught extensively about Nazi Germany and the Holocaust, but I didn’t learn about this until I read The Curse of the Marquis de Sade last year.
It is little known, but the first book burnings in Nazi Germany didn’t target Jewish writers. It was the burning of the library of the Institute of Sexual Research, which was a safe home for trans people.

It is no accident that fascists today walk that same dark path by targeting trans people. /5

It's raining. It feels like the sky is falling. There was so much loss this year. I can’t wrap my head around all of it but I'm trying to write my way through. Maybe you are, too. I'm talking about how to do it with really smart people, I hope you can join us.
