We use birthday to narrow down patrons who have lost their card. That’s how I look myself up to check our books, etc. it never fails to astonish me how many active patrons in our system share my exact birthday. I don’t know why I expect all the peeps born on a random Friday 51 years ago to be dead.

It’s one thing to be an adult hearing this news. It sucks. But what really tears me up is thinking about the kids that are watching themselves, family or friends being legally ‘removed.’ Part of the identity they are trying to figure out is illegal to read about?

Like I tell the THIRD GRADERS who visit our library, “books love us, just like we love books. Would you staple your ear to your face? No!!! Please don’t make the book sad.” Then we make bookmarks & get back to fun.
