White, 40s, lifelong Dem, lifelong Iowan, permanently single, no kids (except for my dad sometimes (I live with him)). Maintaining my last shreds of sanity going forward will hinge on my sports teams, cozy mysteries, and cats (dogs are cool, too).
Anyway, we have plans for this weekend so I have a massive to-do list for the next couple of days to get back to. Have a pretty tree from my walk back from voting yesterday and Dad’s repurposing of our old built-in flower pot (featuring Fall decor for now).

I was dreading this last part of June for a lot of reasons so I did my best to enjoy this weekend and did enjoy this weekend but today has been absolutely terrible so far and that’s without any of the things I’ve been dreading happening yet. So yeah. Just needed to vent. Have a pretty flower.

We got over 3.5 inches of rain yesterday. I’m getting a “cold”snap AND water-logged for my birthday week this year. 😂 Luckily I’m not an outdoors person so had no real outdoor plans. Dad’s grumpy because he can’t work in his garden, though. 🤷‍♀️ Anyway, here’s some flowers pre-rains. Have a good day!

Well the air conditioner guy (just its yearly checkup, on a day it’s not needed for the first time in a week (we’re headed into our May “cold” snap)) is packing up so I need to get on with my day. Have a Good Friday, everybody!

After a chill start to the week, looking at a busy end to it, and then hopefully a do-nothing Sunday. I can’t believe it’s the last day in April but it was a busy month overall and those tend to really fly by. Anyway, have some pretty Spring flowers from Reiman Gardens here in Ames.

These are my favorites, color-wise.

I think we could all use some pretty flowers this morning (although I took the picture yesterday afternoon, fearing the cold last night and today).

These three tulips didn’t mind the snow yesterday. 😂

Well, it snowed yesterday. For a few hours. Stuck to the grass but not the pavement here. These pictures are from early on—it covered quite a lot before already melting a bit before the sun went down. It’s going to be sunny and almost fifty today so it wasn’t going to stick around long anyway.

I forgot to post this yesterday. ANOTHER bloom on this amaryllis. But I think it’s the last one. And we’re currently using a twist-tie to keep it upright. 😂 (Dad’s working on something more permanent.)

I was just informed it’s National Squirrel Day so here we have a picture of one I coincidentally took a picture of this AM hanging out on our birdbath (pardon the photo—I took it at a weird angle through a window). #nationalsquirrelday

I gotta put down my phone but first:

1) Chocolate is good.
2) I won’t RP but I just saw a video of the MyPillow whack-a-doo arriving in DC and I think it speaks to how well I curate my SM experience that I had a thought the other day that I hadn’t seen him anywhere lately.
3) Have a pretty flower.

I couldn’t get a great picture of what the flower looks like now but I tried.

I was so busy venting about being annoyed last night that I forgot to share the latest flower photo (ignore the holiday bins in the background—LOL). There are now four on one plant. The other one still hasn’t bloomed.

Here’s a little pick-me-up for today. They bloomed last night but the pictures I took didn’t turn out very well. The sun was shining this morning, though, and they turned out much better then. We have another one with a bloom on it, but it hasn’t flowered yet.

But my dad hates to be indoors and is easily bored and while reading in the living room this Christmas season got to researching electric inserts, watched some YouTube videos, and today he did this. It looks really good and will probably get a lot of use in the next couple of months at least.

Sure, we have a dull, grey, ugly Christmas and NOW it decides to give us a really pretty snow.

Ended up at two different grocery stores to find red and green sprinkles today. Then went to see some pretty lights and made some cocoa when we got home. Need to get some sleep so I can decorate A LOT of cookies tomorrow. It’s after midnight here so MERRY CHRISTMAS EVE!

Cyclones have this one well in hand and it’s halftime of the Chiefs game so I need go do the floors before that last teeny tiny shred of motivation I have leaves. (Plus Dad is currently out of my hair, downstairs trying to figure out why his new portable GPS thinks we live in Miami.)

Only thing I didn’t get done on my list today was cleaning the floors. I blame Navy playing REALLY well today and forcing me to actually WATCH a lot of the game rather than just listen to it. Also thrilled to announce that the new tree had room for all our ornaments (we have A LOT). 😴 Night!

My uncle’s dog wants me to chill with him now so I think I will do that. Have a good night!

Our family has always done a real tree but the last few years Dad has talked about getting an artificial one and finally did it earlier this week. I had my reservations but it’s really nice and it looks awesome. Didn’t have time to decorate it today but here’s a photo of it with just the lights.

Re: My repost from earlier. So these were taken January 2024. Our house is L-shaped and this formed where the two sides meet. It stuck around for quite a while.

I got distracted by a shiny “new” object this morning so I only got as far as putting the house back together from yesterday and putting the Thanksgiving/Fall stuff away. The object:

Dad brought these home for me from the garden where he volunteers. Yes, that is glitter. Yes, when I was testing the moisture levels, the glitter got all over me. No, they do not fit with my Fall/Turkey decor. Yes, that is a large plastic turkey just outside the frame.
