MBC is breast cancer that has spread to other parts of the body.

Some people, like me, are diagnosed at stage 4, this is called de novo, others have the cancer come back after it has been treated this is called a recurrence.

A milestone to celebrate! Five years ago Dr.A called me to tell me that I was stopping what was originally planned to be lifelong treatments. It was a shock and it took time to adjust to not going to the hospital every month.

Another milestone to celebrate today! On this day in 2016 I got my post treatment PET scan results that told me that all the cancer cells in my body were dead, I was NEAD (no evidence of active disease) I had a PCR (pathologic complete response) to my treatment, which is ideal.

While in treatment I discovered dragon boating and fell in love with the sport. I joined a Breast Cancer Survivor team and have been paddling my heart out ever since.
Dragon Boat Canada is going to be holding tryouts for a National BCS (breast cancer survivor) team.

Cancer turns your world upside down and every experience is unique.

This photo was taken by @yorgisphoto in 2016 not long after my diagnosis.

Being diagnosed with de novo stage 4 HER2+ HR- inflammatory breast cancer in 2016 at 45 definitely turned my life upside down.

It’s been 9 years since I had my first round of chemotherapy and immunotherapy at the Cedars Cancer Centre at the MUHC. In a few months I will be celebrating 5 years since I was able to stop treatment which is still surreal for me.

On January 20, 2016 I walked into the Cedars Cancer centre at the MUHC for the first time. I met my oncologist, Dr.A discussed my diagnosis, my treatment plan and my PET scan results.

On the train ride home now and still processing all the amazing knowledge floating around in my head. I will start with one of the things that stayed at the top of my mind.

Lung cancer is the most common cancer, and by far the leading killer of all cancers in Canada.
