Pleased to announce the publication of our Archaeological Review from
Cambridge volume 40.1: “Food, Gods & Ancestors”! So much work for this little book but so happy with the final result. Thank you to all the amazing contributors and to Dr Salima Ikram for giving a wonderful talk during our launch!

Funding for Arts and Humanities PhDs in the UK was always tight, now it is nearly non-existent. This will exclude even more scholars, leaving PhDs an option only for the wealthy.
'The number of student-initiated PhD scholarships funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) is set to fall by 60 per cent when new doctoral training arrangements come into effect next year, new figures show.' 1/3
‘Student-led’ AHRC PhD places ‘to fall by at least 60 per cent’
Internal modelling released under Freedom of Information enquiry reveals extent of PhD scholarship cuts, with academics fearing impact could be greater still

Really impressed by the panel on Palestinian archaeology held at #ICAANE. Encouraging to hear the things that needed to be said, actually being said. Will look forward to seeing the positive changes the #ICAANE committee will implement going forwards, setting a strong example for the field 💪🙌

What an excellent ICAANE - thank you to everyone that asked great bitumen questions, and thank you to Lyon for all the incredible food (and Aperol) ☺️

A beautiful new paperback publication of ‘Mummified’! 😍
In Mummified, Angela Stienne explores the little-known stories behind the Ancient Egyptian remains displayed in British and French museums.

Taking the reader on a journey, Stienne exposes a murky world of grave-robbing, theft and callously treated human remains.

Coming soon in paperback! #booksky

Another #Nippur fieldwork season done, back to teaching on Tuesday (Assyrian Empire!). I thought I would never put together a team as good as the Brak team was, but this Nippur team is amazing. V proud of the work we did. Until next year. 🏺

“Do not bend your neck for that which cuts necks.”

A Sumerian proverb, as relevant today as it was thousands of years ago.

…and #Kish, where we caught up with the team from the University of Freiburg archaeological project at Kish. Very lucky to be given a sneak peek at the mag results and a tour of the site by Dr Ivana Puljiz, and a lovely lunch together in the garden! #Nippur

Made the absolute most of our days off from excavation at #Nippur, visiting other important sites that many of the team hadn’t seen yet - like #Babylon

So proud to be here at #Nippur with so many brilliant women! 💪 #InternationalWomensDay
At #Nippur, every day is #InternationalWomensDay for our strong women-dominant team. 🏺

The arrival of new team members at #Nippur means starting two new trenches; resupply of ziplock bags, duct tape and chocolate; another visit to the ziggurat; and a tiny trowel for our mascot, #Tuppi.

Preparing my layers! 🥶 Excited to be joining you all out there soon!
Another cold morning but so glad to be here. Our project is exploring Nippur’s suburbs in the late 3rd and mid-2nd mill BCE, so we are working in the low southern area of the site. Shrubs on the skyline are stabilising a dune next to our trenches. 🏺

This trip has also included stops in Oklahoma, Salem, DC, and Philly ✈️
So much done and time spent with wonderful people, but I really freaking miss my own bed!
Last day tomorrow and then apparently I’m flying through a volcanic eruption in Iceland & into a red weather warning in the U.K…🤞

First post on here to celebrate a great first ASOR in Boston. Glad to have made it to this side of the pond to share some bitumen chat, attend really interesting papers, meet lovely people, and of course get in some sightseeing!
