* Bc we don't have good metrics of firearm ownership, they (like most of us) used proxies: the ratio of firearm suicide to total suicide.

* Sadly, young, Black women had the highest risk ratio.

Confused by last night’s Senate vote on the “reconciliation” bill?

☑️It was a vote to allow the Senate to take a future vote

🧾It then has to go back to the House

💰It is NOT the FY26 budget - it just keeps government open.

⚠️But it DOES propose bad things for health - esp Medicaid & food stamps

The National Academies have been independent advisors to the US govt on science, engineering, & health since the 1860s.

Their work is now being decimated. Including their ability to advise on best practices for federal data & stats. 🧪🩺📈

So as I struggle with what lies ahead, I keep thinking about a quote from a book a friend gave me a few years ago (link to the book, below).

Do your best.
Have humility.
But be bold. The world needs it.

Besides, if I stepped out of the arena? That could be worse.

(Vs the folks making even bigger decisions than I, with way less humility and way less knowledge. Cf Dunning-Kruger effect)

May we continue to hold people responsible for shilling false hope to desperate parents:

A team has been charged with murder, after their “treatment” killed a child 😢
