NEW: In an unprecedented move, the NIH will soon disinvite dozens of scientists about to take positions on advisory councils that make final decisions on grant funding.

NIH staff were told to select others aligned with the Trump administration and told to expect placements by political appointees.
Exclusive: NIH to dismiss dozens of grant reviewers to align with Trump priorities
The move would undo years of work, leaving advisory councils understaffed, and without the full expertise needed for reviews.

Feeling a lot like I did in early days of the pandemic these days. It is so clear what’s coming: The people that will die because of cuts in global health, because of cuts to research, because of the concerted anti-vaccine push.
It’s clear what’s coming, but we will have to wait to count the dead.🧪

The Canadian equivalent of the NIH should consider funding a bunch of studies monitoring what happens with vaccine-preventable diseases in Canada and the US over the next decade. Because a real-world laboratory is being created.

We developed this portal for terminated NIH grants on global health with the hope that donors will search for those of interest to them. Please share this with people affected and let me know if you have input on the format or on how best to disseminate it.

All 4 of my NIH research grants are terminated. These were grants on MDR-TB treatment & strategies for supporting adolescents living w/ HIV. This is a massive waste of resources. I am heartbroken for my Harvard team, my partners in Peru, the next generation of scientists & our country. Shame.

The amazing group of faculty that I lead on our research core lost six NIH grants today, all in global health. Thousands of hours of work lost as well as funding for our foreign collaborators in LMICs.

NIH continues to suspend funding to these schools — without telling them.

Researchers have been submitting for renewals, which are approved by NIH program staff. But notices of award never go out.

Columbia has internally been calling these awards "effectively cancelled", per email I've obtained.
Per source, NIH has been instructed to hold off from issuing ALL awards to Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Brown, and Northwestern (including med schools)

Agency staff have also been instructed to not speak about this funding freeze to grantees and applicants

Under pressure from the Trump administration, the National Science Foundation (NSF), a $9 billion agency funding scientific research that has made America great, has canceled over a thousand grants and slowed new funding. That's just the beginning and will get way worse unless Congress intervenes.

We are working to develop a searchable database of cancelled or suspended global health NIH grants, focusing on projects in LMICs. The idea is to make this information available to other potential funders who might want to help keep these projects alive. More to come as we progress.
NEW: An NIH policy coming in the next week will target — and at least temporarily stop — funding outside the US, threatening thousands of projects and collaborations on topics like infectious diseases and cancer.

Some NIH staff have already been told to hold all subaward funds for foreign labs.
Exclusive: NIH to suspend funds for research abroad as it overhauls policy
Move by US biomedical agency threatens thousands of projects on infectious diseases, cancer and more.
