ALA President Sam Helmick on today's vote: "ALA is both disappointed by the FCC’s takebacks and discouraged by the lack of due process, which left no opportunity for staff, patrons and library advocates to give input on the draft order."

ALA is deeply disappointed in the result of today's Senate vote to reject using #ERate funding for wi-fi hotspot programs. The E-Rate program is broadly popular and admired, helping millions of Americans get online through the library and at school. More from ALA President Cindy Hohl ⤵️

ALERT: We only have a few hours to save hotspot lending programs funded by #ERate. We NEED your voice.

Senator Ted Cruz is attempting a last-minute strategy to permanently defund E-Rate hotspot programs at libraries across the country. Call your Senators NOW and tell them to vote NO on S.J.Res 7!

Today, the Supreme Court agreed to review an incredibly consequential 5th Circuit case related to the Universal Service Fund, the funding mechanism that supports #Erate broadband discounts for libraries & schools.

The plaintiffs argue that the USF is unconstitutional. We couldn't disagree more. 1/2

With so many rule changes & eligibility expansions for #Erate over the past few years, the landscape can be confusing.

Hotspots are eligible for E-rate funding, but for how long? What changes under a new FCC?

ALA's @meganjanicki.bsky.social can help. Tune in: broadbandbreakfast.com/november-20-...
