Many folks are doing introductions, so I thought I'd share my 15 minutes of fame. I'm still good friends with one of the Navy officers on that German ship. To quote a colleague, "Nato and Allies matter". www.snopes.com/fact-check/w...

And shout out to my (now) German Navy friend who was a part of the Lütjens crew manning the rails for us back on 9/11. Today he reached out to me— as he does every year. I can’t say it enough: Allies matter.

It doesn’t sound great, but this morning the seaweed and mermaid’s purses outnumbered the plastic that usually washes up on shore.

The state asked the public for new flag ideas. The public didn't disappoint.
With over 1,000 submissions, the public utilized seemingly every Massachusetts cultural staple in its proposed flags, seals and mottos.

Today I got to meet Sunita Williams, US Navy officer and (yes) one of the two astronauts who recently spent 9 months on the ISS. She was so gracious, and as a fellow officer, I was thrilled to tell one of our great leaders how she has set such a positive example for the rest of us.

Absolutely. When in Stockholm, it’s a must see.
Today in 1628 the Vasa, the latest, most powerful and advanced ship in the Swedish navy set off on its maiden voyage.
After travelling about 1,300m it capsized and sank.
It was raised after 333 years on the seabed.
Today @thevasamuseum is one of my favourite places in the world.

Great interview as always by Sam Sanders. Love that he talked to Big Freedia and gave us a chance to learn more about her origins and how it affects the creative process.
Did you know that Big Freedia, Queen of New Orleans Bounce, just released a *gospel* album? We talked all about it on my show this week.

Eighty years after the city’s destruction, we seem to be blundering into a new age of nuclear perils. It is time for culture to rediscover “the courage to be afraid.”

Completely agree with Jim. There are things you can learn about the United States only by not living in the United States
Subject for another time, but *living* outside the US, for at least 6 months at a stretch but preferably 1 -2 years or more, is incomparably enlightening. In many cases more "affordable," because longer stays usually involve some kind of job, an exchange program, etc.
