As you might expect for a "universal" protocol, USB is both incredibly simple (there isn't much to the protocol itself) and incredibly complex (the data packets outside the limited HID specs are completely vendor specific)

SSD/M.2 speeds should mitigate things somewhat if we can stream stuff more aggressively but we'll have to be very careful about scene complexity and the number of audio layers.

Memory optimisation has to be my least favourite thing however. Back at PikPok, I managed to get our Unity-based horse racing game running OK on 512MB phones for a few hours of play before memory fragmentation ran its course. Audio quality was the worst compromise I had to make.

A Sony monopoly feels like it's already here and it doesn't feel great.

Also, the "Hobbit Law" (aka the Screen Industry Workers Bill) in NZ completely screwed over any negotiating position for screen (film and game) workers, preventing any kind of collective bargaining. The US is bad but it's not uniquely bad :)

This is unfortunately true in many parts of the world if you haven't negotiated it (which is very rare). It was the case at all my positions in New Zealand (in and out of the games industry), and is the case here in Germany. *However*, Germany has strict anti-exploitation laws now.

Yes, and my studio is pretty strict about it. The way they’ve implemented recent German legislation changes around working hours and logging is more flexible than they needed to be.

I would love to see a technical award like there is in the DICE ones

I'm sad that a lot of awards are still just given as an incidental mention in a byline.

I’ve seen some of the weird narratives about Travis on left subreddits with almost no pushback. It’s wild.
