This is highly relevant in a world where the non-proliferation regime is eroding, strategic limitations on weapons by the US and Russia are not being renewed, and the US and other countries are revamping their nuclear inventories.

You can criticize the narrative choices, or even the overall scenario, of the movie, but it lays out carefully the insanity of a world where leaders have to react in 20 minutes to an attack that can instantly kill 10 million people.

The movie describes the insanity of mutual assured destruction, and the crushing pressure that puts on the human, information, and strategic infrastructure designed to feed the president all the necessary information and options, so that they alone can make make the decision.
