Bonus #ThingThursday: I found this double sided cheapo clock/fake compass at Marshalls that I pulled apart to remove the mechanism so I could put bugs in it.
Repurposed cheap mass produced double-sided clock compass. Side A contains a brown beetle on green moss, surrounded by lichen (yellow and green varieties) and small white flowers. Side B contains a light colored butterfly on green moss. Underneath it are a variety of dried flowers, in white, yellow, and pink colors.

Right now I am surrounded by a number of precariously placed containers of embroidery supplies and beads. Someone tell me how I am supposed to get any work done with a pitbull who insists on being in my lap or on top of me. She will kick things over to make herself fit. #dogsofbluesky #dogsky #art
Juno, a black and white pitty puppy wedging herself behind me in order to get into a better position for snuggles and optimal craft disruption. My erstwhile workspace (couch) covered in baskets and containers of beads and embroidery supplies. The throw pillow I’m leaning on is in the Overlook Hotel carpet pattern. Juno having successfully invaded my workspace, resting her head on my lap. A tin of beads and supplies has shifted at an angle behind her.

I’ve always wanted one of those antique convex glass frames with taxidermy bugs and dried flowers inside, so I made one this week. Not bad for my first attempt. #ThingThursday #Oddities
Grey colored antique frame with convex glass. Inside is a death’s head moth on top of red velvet background and pressed dogwood blossoms I gathered this spring. I used six brass butterflies to camouflage some imperfections on the velvet background. At the bottom of the frame there is moss with two dried mushrooms sprouting from it and in front of the moss is a raccoon jawbone and a beetle with some good sized chompers.

#ThingThursday today is kind of a follow up to last week. I really liked the embroidery I did for this jar so I did it again and put it in a cloche. My dad asked for one of my pieces and I think this will travel well so we are taking it with us when we go to see them. #art #artsky #embroidery

Yellow and brown embroidery thread is used to make textured ground and grass. Velvet in the same color scheme to creat rocks along side a real tan colored rock. Seed beads and stone beads ad more texture alongside a two flowers made of green seed beads and pink embroidery thread. I used some dried stems with leaves to add some more variety. The black glass scorpion sits at the back of the piece.

#ThingThursday this week is a little experiment with embroidery. Taking this on a girl’s trip with me today as a gift for a friend. It was a fun little project. I think I’ll do more of these.
3d embroidered and beaded scene in a green ceramic pot. Embroidery thread used to look like grass, moss and a log. Some velvet used to look like rocks. Two glass mushroom shaped beads next to each other and a polymer clay snail next to the embroidered log.

No I never get sick of it! Here’s a WIP of what I’m working on right now. I am so in love with how it’s coming together.
Pinned scorpion I will be putting in a jar for display. Display jar for scorpion from previous picture. Inside currently has sand and some rocks but has not fully come together. The lid has an embroidered 3D landscape using embroidery thread in various colors and textures, some velvet pieces shaped into rocks, an actual rock and some beads along with a blue glass scorpion. It is bordered with twine.

This is another one of my more weird creations. I made this one after finding an intact cluster of acorn tops and thought it would look cool with some creepy little skulls attached to it. #ThingThursday

I am just learning to be able to effectively manipulate bugs. I’d say this isn’t bad for one of my first attempts. Here are some additional #WIP images.

Cloche diorama featuring an antique doll’s head leaned against a rock. It is surrounded by green moss, and the moss is also coming out of the back of the head and eyes. Underneath the head is a tulip tree flower husk and leaned against the head is a broken vintage brooch. On the rock is a cicada exoskeleton and on top of the head is an adult cicada. From the back of a head there is a large mushroom providing a flat surface for an antique mini tea set. Small pink flowers have been placed in one of the pieces of the tea set and bees are placed on the mushroom and tea set as though they are crawling around it. Not visible from this angle is a large brown spider emerging from the neck of the doll’s head. A different angle showing the spider emerging from the underside of the doll’s head. I broke one of its legs when I was adjusting it so that flaw has been hidden by moss. Front angle without the glass dome showing a clearer picture of the piece. You can just see the spider emerging from the side. The cicada is front and center with its wings spread. Close up of the bee tea service on the mushroom. There are five bees. Three of them are on the flat surface of the mushroom. One is on the tea tray and the other is crawling into a tea cup. The tea set is white with a red and blue floral design with green leaves and gold all bf the edges of each piece.

Found this vintage mirror in a silver stand that had nothing else framing the glass (yes I know I should learn to take before pictures) and I attached a round wooden piece to the back so I could do a nature themed frame. I think it turned out appropriately whimsical. #art #crystals #mushrooms

I found this interesting oak twig that looked like a weird little guy. My MIL insisted he needed eyes so I gave him several. I also had this broken cloche that I glued back together and disguised the repair with bark and lichen. So now the weird little guy has a home. #ThingThursday
Close up of my weird little oak gremlin. He’s in a glass cloche, which was broken and I’ve repaired with bark and lichen, that functions as a bit of a backdrop. The gremlin is made of a twig I found from an oak tree that still had acorn caps on it. Two of those caps are on a bulging section of the twig and look like eyes, so I placed fake red eyes with vertical pupils in those caps and in the other caps. He’s standing in very light colored moss with a small pine cone and some dried red berries to add a pop of color. Close up of my weird little oak gremlin without the glass cloche. Picture of my weird little oak gremlin a bit farther away so you can see the full cloche. Backside of the cloche I repaired with bark and lichen. It was broken into two pieces (I should have taken a before picture but didn’t think about it). I glued the pieces together and then to disguise the crack I glued lichen on the inside and a similar shaped piece of bark I foraged over it on the outside. The rough edges of the bark are disguised with lichen. Then because it looked too plain I glued pressed mushrooms and moss over the bark to create natural looking scene reminiscent of mushrooms growing at the base of a tree.
