Communist.
(Obviously part of it in this example is just Shapiro distancing himself from stuff he previously endorsed but this is especially easy with Trump because he spouts unhinged horseshit all day so there's a lot of scope for supporters to claim they thought something was just flamboyant rhetoric).

"Wait, you guys actually want leopards to eat people's faces...? Like, really???"

Guess some of those essential British values were a bit circumstantial after all.

Mahmood wants to appeal to an (imagined) history of the UK being open and welcoming to refugees fleeing persecution while also saying that there are just too many asylum seekers these days because of our "increasingly mobile and volatile world" so we have to go for hard borders.

I remember getting outraged on Twitter when the policy was announced years ago but I must confess I'd forgotten about it.

Exactly! Who at the Home Office is going to be in charge of putting people's stuff on eBay? What a pathetic attempt to justify cruelty for its own sake.

Are you going to make a meaningful dent in costs of billions of pounds per year by seizing the odd e-bike and, what, selling them second hand?

I could point to a whole radical tradition of thought if I wanted to engage a local Labour account in sincere debate about whether there was something left wing about open borders but all I see here is determined ignorance. There's no arguing with that & there's no possible shared endeavour.

Most often I recoil in horror but if I could bring myself to enter a conversation I would like to know what left wing positively, affirmatively means to that section of the UK that votes Labour but hates protest, direct action, internationalism, solidarity, redistribution. It isn't clear at all

The UK is full of people loudly claiming the inheritance of radical struggle who plainly hate anyone currently engaged in radical struggle. You can read posts by them here on Bluesky, whining that no-one recognises them as left wing while snarling about "bread tubers".

FFS this was meant to say "persecution", not "prosecution".
