Oh look, Canadian cops are starting to fall for the same hysteria as American ones. 🙄

Don’t sleep with people who won’t yield to ambulances and fire trucks that have their lights and sirens on.

“the monthly cost of social housing is $613. This is starkly lower than $2,100 for a shelter bed, $4,300 for a correctional facility bed, $13,500 for a hospital bed. Housing people is not only a moral imperative but also an economically sound decision.” Kathy Moreland RN #onpoli

I actually like bagpipe music.

My partner trying to teach my other partner (have a learner with me today) how to play the chanter at the station today is... an ordeal.

90 mins to go in this shift. #Lucky13

My (much) better half received an RCAF Commander’s Commendation today for her work with CMERT.
Extremely proud husband over here.

So I’m teaching substance use disorder to my paramedic pharmacology class in a couple of weeks. This is my chance to mythbust & talk #HarmReduction.

If there was one book, article, podcast, video, etc that you would want a group of new ACPs to see what would it be?

For a few years now the service has distributed Valentine’s Day cards made by local school kids to each paramedic. They’re adorable and I love them!

Great start to my night shift.

Tonight I met a lady who worked ambulance (out of the funeral home) in the community I now serve back in the early 60’s. Her service was the first in the area to have units equipped with radios.

Quite possibly the first woman to work in prehospital care in this area

Among the many fun things about having such a common name, is that I get Academia.edu e-mails that let me fantasize about a far more interesting & eclectic academic life.

Just one academically dishonest (-ish?) click away... sigh.

It is so hard to argue with any real conviction when an unhoused pt wants to leave AMA b/c if they don’t someone will steal their stuff.

Nothing I tell them about why they should stay & be assessed is going to beat that.

@ryanmarino.bsky.social recently at work, crew called for an unconscious pt. Updated by PD probable OD w/ needles & powder on scene.

But rather than a hazmat response, PD gave the pt #naloxone & restored the pt's breathing.

I guess 🇨🇦cops have anti-fentanyl superpowers or something?

My partner had to go home sick mid shift. So the student & I are first response tonight. Typically means we’re in for a slow night here at 13.

Going to introduce him to a classic movie. For educational purposes of course.

We had a nice little Saturday at St 13. Our new student Ethan’s second day and my partner Jenn is making biscuits in the toaster oven along with 🥓 & 🍳.

This is so cool! The Barrie Public Library has a book vending machine at the community centre. Checked out a book while waiting for C to change after swimming.

My 11y/o just came up with 2 solid jokes:

“Do you know why dinosaurs don’t eat fish? Because they’re extinct.”

“Did you know frogs can jump higher than the Eiffel Tower? The Eiffel Tower can’t jump.”

Canadian good deed for the day.

Directed an American couple towards Ms Vicki’s spicy ketchup chip and Hawkins Cheezies. (Their daughter wanted some 🇨🇦 chip flavours.)

There is NOTHING on tv so I’m watching “Chicago Fire” to exercise my eye muscles 🙄.

Current plot: Investigation into 4 missing vials of toradol.

“Probably taken by some junkie.” 🙄

Does that PWUD have some renal colic? Maybe some real bad knee pain?

There are lots of great reasons to order from @clairezagorski.bsky.social’s Etsy shop. Extra goodies are one them.

Today at St 13 we started the morning with a bird stuck in the bay. Left a rear door open in hopes it would figure it out.

There are now TWO birds in the bay.

Updates to follow.

Had a really satisfying day at work today. Picked up an OT shift, had a great partner I hadn’t worked with before. Ran into some great medics I hadn’t seen in yrs. Some interesting pt presentations, some ALS interventions & gave out 2 take home naloxone kits. #MyParamedicDay
